How Trigger Point got started
Trigger Point started as a research project for Cassidy Phillips, who suffers from fibromyalgia. Phillips needed to find a solution for the continuous pain throughout his body. The well-trained athlete spent years researching his condition and refused to settle with doctor’s recommendations of never training again. - Click here to read more
Cassidy Phillips
Starting in 2001 Cassidy Phillips’ body began breaking down. He was dealing daily with chronic pain; just getting out of bed each day took a huge amount of effort. Phillips’ desire to be an athlete, however, was still there. He researched everything he could to help his deteriorating body respond in a positive way. - Click here to read Cassidy’s bio

I snowboarded professionally up until 2002 and during that time I had my fair share of injuries due to the nature of the type of riding I did. After a couple of disappointing seasons due to injuries and my girlfreind (wife now
) wanting to join a running club or something, we stumbled on to this sport called Triathlon. Being the type of person I am, I jumped right into it. We got a coach, got the equipment, trained hard and before you know it, we were signing up for our first Ironman! All this within a few months of starting the sport.
Everything was going well and then bam… 6 weeks out from Ironman Australia I went for an easy run and within 2km it felt like someone had thrust a knife into the side of my knee! I had no idea what it was but soon found out about a nice little show stopper named ITB Syndrome or Illiotibial band syndrome. I tried EVERYTHING to fix that and spent over a couple of thousand dollars in the process and nothing or no one could get me further then 2km of running before that knife was thrust in the side of my knee again. I had resigned myself to a long walk come Ironman.
The ah ha moment came at the Ironman Expo a couple of days before the event. A guy named Daryl Phillips who is an ART (Active Release Technique) practioner was providing free treatments to athletes racing (ART do this in Kona too). After a few questions he did some releases on my calves and glutes. Hmm no one has treated ITBs this way… anyway 2x 5 minute sessions with Daryl before race day and in the race I got 27km before that same pain came on! Suffice to say, I was amazed how far I had made it, with so little work and I had plenty of walking time to ponder why!
Shortly after Ironman I stumbeld onto the Trigger Point Therapy Tools and Cassidy Phillips. I had a read of the website and it all made sense. I ordered a Total Kit and went on a mission to learn everything I could, empowered myself with knowledge and took on responsibility of looking after myself. Not only was I able to fix the ITBs and many of the other little niggles I had, I also found out first hand how much using the tools helped with recovery from sessions and in keeping my muscle tissue healthy.
Since that first Ironman in 2003, I have been on a mission of not only learning about common overuse injuries and how to fix them but also learning about performance in this sport. Sure I have some certifications to my name but in reality they are easy to get. Sometimes you need to think out of the box, because a lot of ways out there are outdated (in overuse injury treatment and training) and you need to challenge yourself to the hard questions to find the answers.
Now 6 years down the track, I stay happily uninjured, help many people to do the same, while also progressing mine and my athletes performances in the sport of triathlon. Without having stumbled on the TP Therapy Performance Tools my journey from an 11:27 Ironman athlete to that of an 8:57 and age group champion most likely wouldnt have happened.
Treat the problem not the symptom!
